This study explored the motivation of the coaches to devote their time to this effort without financial reward or recognition. The presenter designed, proposed, promoted, and instituted s2s Coaching. The purpose of this case study was to explore the perspective of student coaches in the s2s Coaching program at Palm Beach State College following completion of training in the spring term of 2013. An additional research question was to assess the coaches’ perspective of the coach training and their motivation or interest in becoming a student coach. Lastly, the recommendations of the coaches for future coach training sessions are assessed. Coaches were interviewed and document review was included in the methodology. Among the findings that emerged was the discomfort that the coaches felt in maintaining a professional or institutional role while delving into potentially personal matters, which in their normal discourse would make them a friend. This fuzzy line between coach and friend engendered discussion and recommendations for future training and discussion of this topic with the other coaches. The findings are revealed by a discussion of these categories.

Six participants described their experiences of being first-time mothers. Seven essential themes emerged: Naturalness, Knowing, Connection, Value, Delivering Comfort, Structure, and Transformation. These themes describe the lived experience as the essence of Naturalness to facilitate Knowing the Connection to one's infant is Valuing intuition in Delivering Comfort that is without Structure and involves self Transformation. The unity of meaning discovered from the data is stated as: The Illumination of Intuition to First-Time Mothers and Experiencing the Presence of Other. The results of this study suggest that the recognition of intuition to first-time mothers is significant to nursing and nursing practice.

Later, the negative image of American capitalism was formed, in part, by Marxist ideology. In poetry published after 1959 the image of the American recurs on three levels: military, cultural, and social. The image of the American as a military invader, economic imperialist, threat to Cuban mores and cultural values, and racist existed before the 1959 Revolution and continues to be an underlying theme in contemporary Cuban poetry.

Show moreUninterruptable Power Supply (UPS) systems have become essential to modern industries that require continuous power supply to manage critical operations. Since a failure of a single battery will affect the entire backup system, UPS systems providers must replace any battery before it runs dead. In this regard, automated monitoring tools are required to determine when a battery needs replacement. Nowadays, a primitive method for monitoring the battery backup system is being used for this task. This thesis presents a classification model that uses data mining cleansing and processing techniques to remove useless information from the data obtained from the sensors installed in the batteries in order to improve the quality of the data and determine at a given moment in time if a battery should be replaced or not. This prediction model will help UPS systems providers increase the efficiency of battery monitoring procedures.

Show moreThe purpose of this research was to determine if a relationship exists between McGregor’s Leadership Theory and subjective states of well-being among higher educational leaders in state and community colleges in Florida. The underlying supposition was that the preference for what Douglas McGregor called Theory X or Theory Y assumptions, indicate intrinsic assumptions about human nature and are linked to subjective happiness. Quantitative data were collected through electronic administration of two surveys and demographic questions to higher educational leaders at 28 state and community colleges in the State of Florida. These instruments measured levels of well-being through the PERMA-Profiler instrument and preferences for Theory X or Theory Y using the Theory X and Theory Y Managerial Assumptions Inventory. Multiple correlation and regression analyses were used to address the research questions. This study detected no relationship between well-being and happiness in this sample.

Show moreThe representation of lead female characters as sexually threatening or naturally deceptive, hysterical, or evil, especially non-White or non-gender conforming characters, in popular science fiction and superhero film and television productions over the past few decades is concerning in that these films promote misogynistic and intersecting racist and hetero/sexist tropes in genres that typically appeal to younger audiences. Within their historical roots as cheap print entertainment, i.e., pulp magazines and comic books, directed at White working-class boys and young men, these genres have historically, and unabashedly, featured scantily clad, sometimes racially stereotyped, sexually titillating temptresses such as the Dragon Lady and Catwoman that threatened the hyper-masculine hero as well as humanity. Ignored by literary and cinematic critics throughout the twentieth century as juvenile male fantasy entertainment, the science fiction and superhero genres in film and television now dominate Hollywood productions. Unfortunately, these genres in the twenty-first century still often promote damaging female tropes that suggest women as naturally defective, deceptive, power-hungry, irrational, raging monsters reminiscent of historical patriarchal myths of women. Additionally, a recent popular Netflix television series includes a character assigned female at birth (AFAB) who presents as gender non-conforming and carries attributes such as irrational rage and murderous violence that follows the historic cinematic trope of the “gleeful gay killer” as seen in Psycho (1960) and Dressed to Kill (1980). Although these themes in film and television are fantasy, they also mirror and bring to life the political and cultural anxieties of a significant number of men in our country who support the ideology of the manosphere that includes anti-feminist, anti-LGBTQ+, White supremacist, and racist beliefs. This dissertation examines three popular Hollywood films and one Emmy Award winning Netflix television series from the science-fiction and superhero genres since 1996 that reveal damaging female tropes that still prevail in popular entertainment.
