Although we are able to recognize people through movement, accuracy of identification of strangers through point-light models is low. Connecting the major points of motion to represent a skeleton might enhance the ability to recognize strangers. This study also wishes to assess whether accuracy will be improved through learning general movement characteristics of individuals. After a learning stage, participants were randomly assigned to match names with either point-light or skeleton models of actor movements. Two of the four actions performed by actors in the testing stage were previously seen during the learning stage. We expect identification from skeleton displays will be higher than for point light displays. We also expect higher accuracy for actions previously seen during the learning stage. The findings and their implications will be discussed.

Show moreGovernment policies can reduce or increase wealth. Some governmental actions are explicit, such as the collection of taxes or fees. The effects of other actions are less apparent, such as safety regulations or meat inspection standards. Specific governmental policies were matched to related industry groups who would seem affected by the action. The stock values for each of the industrial groups were analyzed using a time series methodology. The data for the investigation came from the actual stock prices at weekly checkpoints over a two year period. Each group has a total stock value and the matching Dow Jones Industrial Average for each time period. Forecast values are compared to actual values for the critical periods previous to and following the pronouncement of the policy. The results are compared on a case by case basis within each industry, and an aggregate conclusion was drawn based on all five industries. Overall, the short term outcome reflected stock market reaction which caused most values to decrease from the news. Long term values were restored for the most part in relation to the total stock market behavior as represented by the Dow Jones Industrial Average. The intent of the research was to measure wealth changes as a result of governmental policy pronouncements. The capital values of the stock market provided a means of measuring wealth. While this paper did not intend to provide investment insight, one can conclude that short term downturns from some governmental policies are short term in nature. A savvy investor may be able to outperform the market average using such downturns as a strategic investment point.

We describe this new species as Cercopithecus lomamiensis sp. nov., and provide data on its distribution, morphology, genetics, ecology and behavior. C. lomamiensis is restricted to the lowland rain forests of central DRC between the middle Lomami and the upper Tshuapa Rivers. Morphological and molecular data confirm that C. lomamiensis is distinct from its nearest congener, C. hamlyni, from which it is separated geographically by both the Congo (Lualaba) and the Lomami Rivers. C. lomamiensis, like C. hamlyni, is semi-terrestrial with a diet containing terrestrial herbaceous vegetation. The discovery of C. lomamiensis highlights the biogeographic significance and importance for conservation of central Congo’s interfluvial TL2 region, defined from the upper Tshuapa River through the Lomami Basin to the Congo (Lualaba) River. The TL2 region has been found to contain a high diversity of anthropoid primates including three forms, in addition to C. lomamiensis, that are endemic to the area. We recommend the common name, lesula, for this new species, as it is the vernacular name used over most of its known range.

Show moreAs competition among brands escalates, marketers seek emerging opportunities to differentiate and position brands and grow a customer base by offering lifestyle brands. Lifestyle branding adds value to consumers by integrating superior functional performance, enabling fuller engagement in lifestyle activities with emotional appeals satisfying psychological desires, such as adventure, excitement, camaraderie, and self-expression. While the importance of both functional performance and emotional brand meaning have been justified in the marketing literature, an advertising maxim claimed successful communication required emphasis on one dominant message to create the most persuasive initial impression. Knowing that initial impressions impact consumer judgments of product design form, this study investigated whether functional or symbolic signals created more persuasive initial impressions when used to create the look of a website homepage for an outdoorsy lifestyle brand. The right look of a homepage creates a mood facilitating persuasion. Consent forms and APA Style complied with ethical research standards.

In other words it generates a back-story designed to enhance the cathartic experience and promote engagement by the reader, viewer or participant. Some examples of World-Building include Halo, World of WarCraft and Game of Thrones. Stories need context to be fully understood and experienced. One describes a situation, the environment, sensations, smells, sounds and sensory perception to give the audience a fuller, richer experience. World-Building provides context through history, textures, laws, physics and motivations. The written portion of this thesis describes the process of generating a fantasy world. The visual portion uses a character-driven narrative to examine larger themes such as psychological transformation and pursuing one’s dream against the odds.

Noted for his personal generosity toward residents, Clark became politically powerful in the state and used his influence to provide economic benefits for the county. He also permitted illegal gambling because it provided revenue and jobs for residents. After the Second World War, many residents wanted illegal gambling to end. Clark was suspended from office by Governor Fuller Warren after a U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee investigation exposed his ownership of the Broward Novelty Company, which allegedly owned slot machines and administrated an illegal lottery.

Wallace Stevens, always concerned with forms and the metaphors they engender, uses the pineapple as subject of a major poem, "Someone Puts a Pineapple Together," and elsewhere in his work it appears as a forceful image. Hogarth recommends that the artist study his subject from within the form, to achieve a fuller realization of its exterior, a technique often practiced by Stevens, whose thinking may proceed from the center of a given form--or idea--to the outside. Hogarth's stated belief that variety is essential to beauty finds confirmation in the poetry of Stevens, who is known for the diversity of his vision.

In Stevens's cosmos, the gods have come to nothing, and so he metamorphoses the western, metaphysical sense of "messenger of God," while maintaining its messenger topos. Stevens's decreation of angel is an exercise in the language about the language. Stevens's new messenger is the poet, like Heidegger's Da-Sein. Stevens's angel poetry is filled with images that are "metagenetic," a characteristic that describes their metamorphic repetition. In the continuous repetition of the angel image, metaphor, and symbol, Stevens develops a poetic theory that differs from the phallologocentric beginnings of the traditional western metaphysical angel. Stevens supplants traditional poetic apotheosis with a transcendence/immanence defined as the aesthetic condition of fuller Being. Angels, destructured and restructured as a fiction, enable the poet and readers to refocus on the needs and aesthetics of contemporary perception.
