In this thesis, realization and implementation of one-dimensional (1-D) and two-dimensional (2-D) recursive digital filters using LabVIEW are presented. A number of direct and state-space realizations for 1-D filters are implemented either as in general form or second-order modules. Implementation programs are provided and simulation results are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed method. Show moreIn this thesis, realization and implementation of one-dimensional (1-D) and two-dimensional (2-D) recursive digital filters using LabVIEW are presented. A number of direct and state-space realizations for 1-D filters are implemented either as in general form or second-order modules. Implementation programs are provided and simulation results are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed method. In addition, several realizations for 2-D separable-in-denominator filters are proposed. These realizations have the properties of highly parallel structure and improved throughput delay. The performance as well as the implementation of 2-D filters using LabVIEW is also presented.

Show moreAs computing technology continues to advance, it has become increasingly difficult to find businesses that do not rely, at least in part, upon the collection and analysis of data for the purpose of project management and process improvement. The cost of software tends to increase over time due to its complexity and the cost of employing humans to develop, maintain, and evolve it. To help control the costs, organizations often seek to improve the process by which software systems are developed and evolved. Improvements can be realized by discovering previously unknown or hidden relationships between the artifacts generated as a result of developing a software system. The objective of the work described in this thesis is to provide a visualization tool that helps managers and engineers better plan for future projects by discovering new knowledge gained by synthesizing and visualizing data mined from software repository records from previous projects.

Show moreIn this thesis, a practical solution for drive test data evaluation and a real application are studied. We propose a system framework to project high dimensional Drive Test Data (DTD) to well-organized web pages, such that users can visually review phone performance with respect to different factors. The proposed application, iVESTA (interactive Visualization and Evaluation System for driven Test dAta), employs a web-based architecture which enables users to upload DTD and immediately visualize the test results and observe phone and network performances with respect to different factors such as dropped call rate, signal quality, vehicle speed, handover and network delays. iVESTA provides practical solutions for mobile phone manufacturers and network service providers to perform comprehensive study on their products from the real-world DTD.

This thesis presents MAPLE, a prototype knowledge-based system that assists music composition by analyzing primordial lines in Western music. Unlike other music analysis systems, MAPLE uses an internal connective musical structure that provides a foundation for analysis. Thus our approach has a building block capability allowing easy extensions for analyzing more complex musical structures. We present a type hierarchy and hierarchical dependency of different musical concepts for controlling complex musical analysis processes. We provide comparisons of various knowledge representation structures and their corresponding inference mechanisms used for music analysis and conclude with a projection of an appropriate form of knowledge representation for musical knowledge.

The overall result is the delivery of the prescribed dose in the target volume. The dose distribution is conformal to the shape of the target and minimizes the dose to the nearby critical organs. An inverse planning algorithm is used to obtain those non-uniform beam intensities. In inverse treatment planning, the treatment plan is achieved by using an optimization process. The optimized plan results to a high-quality dose distribution in the planning target volume (PTV), which receives the prescribed dose while the dose that is received by the organs at risk (OARs) is reduced. Accordingly, an objective function has to be defined for the PTV, while some constraints have to be considered to handle the dose limitations for the OARs.

Show moreThis study examined a model to predict success on the Advanced Placement Computer Science (APCS) examination. The sample included all students (N = 423) who participated in the APCS program in the Palm Beach County Public School System from 1985 to 1994. Predictor variables consisted of the number of courses taken in specific content areas at the secondary level, semester grades in the APCS course, grade point average, and gender. Multiple regression analysis indicated the significance of these variables in predicting the score on the APCS examination (F (12,280) = 5.848, p $<$.001). Further discriminant analysis identified the most accurate subset of predictors. All students were divided into two groups based on their scores on the APCS examination (pass/fail). The variables that occurred most frequently in the best subsets included the number of semesters taken in advanced mathematics; overall high school grade point average; gender; the grades achieved in both first and second semester in Advanced Placement Computer Science; and the semesters in computers. A model based on these six predictors had the highest (p $<$.01) predictive accuracy of all models studied (67.6% hit rate). Additional study of other independent variables that contribute to success on the APCS examination is needed.

Show moreThe purpose of this study was to identify (1) the effectiveness of the Intel Essentials model of project-based learning based on student Florida Comprehensive Assessment test (FCAT) reading scores; (2) the differences in student engagement between students in classes with teachers trained in the Intel Essentials model of project-based learning and teachers not trained in the model as measured by the Beliefs about Classroom Structures Survey; (3) the level of implementation (high, average, or low) of teachers trained in the Intel Essentials model of project-based learning; and (4) any correlation between the level of implementation and the level of student engagement. A total of 32 teachers participated in the study. The teachers were split into 2 groups: the experimental group (N = 16) that participated in the Intel Essentials Training, and the control group (N = 16) that did not participate in the training. The results for this study were mixed. The students of the experimental group teachers (N = 780) had significantly higher (p < .05) FCAT scores than that of the control group students (N = 643). The control group with the exception of Motivating Tasks subscale had significantly higher levels of engagement. The correlation between level of implementation and student engagement produced a moderate negative correlation, meaning that the Intel trained teachers with the highest levels of implementation had the lowest levels of engagement.
