Show moreExperiments were carried out in order to better characterize the intergranular corrosion process of 5086-H34 aluminum in sea water. Specimens were exposed at a constant potential in the range -0.75VSCE < corr < -0.83 Volts Saturated Calomel Electrode (VSCE). As a result, it was found that for a potential noble to -0.79VSCE intergranular corrosion indeed occurs. Under the same conditions 5052-H34 shows no intergranular attack. Since the major difference between these alloys is beta phase percent and distribution, this implies a minimum of this phase is required for intergranular corrosion to occur. Measurements of pH within simulated occluded cells were made in an attempt to obtain reasons for the observed -0.79VSCE threshold. The results of this did not point to any particular course which would explain this potential.

Abstract/Description
-
This thesis deals with the efficient markets hypothesis as it applies to the securities market. The first chapter provides the various forms of the EMH and its theoretical basis. Chapter two analyzes the weak form of the EMH and the major empirical contributions concerning it. Chapter three presents the strong forms of the EMH. It is concluded on the basis of a substantial and consistent body of analysis that efficient is an accurate description of the securities market.

How do people allocate responsibility for inter-racial conflict (Black vs. White) under ambiguous circumstances? We tested the hypothesis that responsibility allocation reflects people’s implicit racial bias—with greater blame allocated to the Black protagonist by observers with stronger implicit anti-Black bias—but only when they identify the conflict in low-level terms (i.e., the specific momentary actions of the individuals). Show moreHow do people allocate responsibility for inter-racial conflict (Black vs. When observers identify the conflict in high-level terms (e.g., the intentions of the individuals), they are conscious of their biases and can suppress them in favor of less prejudicial judgments. White and Black participants read or listened to an ambiguous inter-racial conflict narrative, then allocated responsibility for the conflict and rated the protagonists’ personalities. The results showed the defendants were rated as more responsible when rated more positively for personality and affective reaction. Methodological reasons for the direction of the relationship are discussed, as are suggestions for future research.
