The competition supports their capacity to effectively explain their research in three minutes, in language appropriate to a non-specialist audience. The first 3MT® competition was held at the University of Queensland in 2008 with 160 students competing. In 2009 and 2010 the 3MT® competition was promoted to other Australian and New Zealand universities and enthusiasm for the concept grew. Since 2011, the popularity of the competition has increased and 3MT® competitions are now held in over 170 universities across more than 18 countries worldwide.

Therefore a series of tests were carried out to determine how the electrochemical reactions occurring at the electrodes affect the seawater system. These tests were used to determine the effects magnetic fields have on seawater conductivity, the pH changes around the electrodes, and consider the double layer capacitance model as a means to decrease the amount of gas bubbles created at the electrodes. As a result significant increases in resistivity in seawater were observed when the magnetic field was introduced, pH changes were seen on both the cathode and anode, and pulsing of the applied potential may stimulate further work to be considered.

This resulted in an overwhelming accumulation of components - pieces of information that no longer functioned to create the "whole." Interested in how information adds up to meaning, I am preoccupied with sorting out meaning from my accumulations. With each work, I create a map that works less to mark a destination than to structure a journey. No longer "lost" in the details, these accumulated works effect a "whole" where the inflection of my hand in each discreet decision I made adds up to marking my place. This offers the viewer the possibility that asserting one's place is meaning enough.

Blood chemistry values of cold-stunned individuals showed abnormal values similar to those reported in cold-stunned sea turtles. Territoriality and breeding behaviors, including nesting and head-bob displays, decreased or ceased during the following months. Steroid hormone concentrations were detected by HPLC and were not consistent with results from RIA studies in the literature.

Show moreForty-one women filled out surveys about their heterosexual sexual behavior over the course of 30 days. These surveys tracked their menstrual cycles, sexual behavior, sexual desires, and orgasm frequency. Although the sample size was small, a number of borderline statistically significant (p < .10) trends emerged from the analysis: women experienced more copulatory orgasms on average when fertile and women who were not in relationships tended to have more frequent non-copulatory orgasms. Naturally cycling women also experienced significantly more non-copulatory orgasms when fertile. Although no strong conclusions can be drawn from the current sample, the results suggest many avenues for future research.

The RMSE of the channel estimation process was 1.83 % and 6.1810 %, respectively for simulated and experimental data. Using experimental data, the RMSE before MIMO deconvolution process was 141.3 % and dropped down to 60.224 % and to 4.4545 %, respectively after LE and ICLE. At raw reception, the RMSE was 101.83 % and dropped down to 9.36 % and to 1.86 % using respectively LE and ICLE with simulated data.

For the public and private health care programs analyzed in this study, the findings indicate that the publicly delivered programs provided more accountability to the vulnerable populations served than the contracted-out health care programs.

The literature has presented contrasting evidence about the role of perpetual features such as artifact appearance versus causal or inductive reasoning in chldren's category distinctions (e.g., function). The present project used a child-initiated inquiry paradigm to investigate how children conceptualize artifacts, specifically how they prioritize different types of information that typify not only novel but also familiar objects. Results underscore a hybrid model in which perceptual features and deeper properties act synergistically to inform children's artifact conceptualization. Function, however, appears to be the driving force of this relationship.

These data were used to create an in-depth illustration of 5th-grade students' discourse and the impact of that discourse on their science conceptual learning. Findings indicated students spoke in three main discourse classifications during small group inquiries and two of these discourses were also present in the science notebook entries. Findings further indicated gender did not impact the nature of students' oral or written discourse regarding their conceptual learning. Implications for classroom practice and suggestions for further research in elementary science education are offered.

Show moreHuman beings have two apparently conflicting fundamental rights. On the one hand, individuals have a right to health care as the United Nations declared in 1948. On the other hand, individuals have a right to liberty; that is, the freedom to make one's own health related choices, even poor ones. One goal of this essay is to show how to reconcile these two apparently conflicting core American values. This reconciliation is important, because a universal health care system that is fair and just must account for individual rights in tandem with attempts to address matters of social justice. In order for this reconciliation to occur, matters of individual responsibility, social responsibility, and social justice must be central to health care reform.

This dissertation is a re-conceptualization and an empirical analysis of group emotional intelligence in the context of public administration work groups. This dissertation proposes a new conceptualization of GEI and utilizes it for the empirical measurement of GEI. By critically reviewing previous theoretical and empirical literature on group level phenomena and their measurement, this dissertation offers a re-conceptualization of group emotional intelligence. it also defines group emotional intelligence (GEI), creates a model for GEI, provides an empirical means of measuring (GEI) and demonstrates how GEI in groups can afect group performance and group learning ability.
