- The Foundation is organized primarily for research in the marine sciences and for the development of oceanographic tools and systems for undersea research. The following excerpts from the Articles of Incorporation outline our Harbor Branch Foundation programs. 1. Accumulating and computerizing knowledge in the field of oceanology, particularly as it applies to the effects of pollution. 2. Sponsoring and engaging in scientific research and development for the purpose of making inventories and observing the behavior of marine plants and animals through various stages of their life cycles in unpolluted and polluted waters. 3. Developing new engineering tools and improved safety equipment for marine and oceanographic research and operating laboratories for the furtherance of such research. 4. Developing methods for changing the character of pollution, by eliminating the harmful effects and by utilizin'g the nutrients and beneficial effects. 5. Sponsoring and engaging in underwater archaeology projects through the use of new engineering tools and methods. 6. Preparing and distributing publications, research materials, lectures and seminars which serve to disseminate knowledge of marine plants and animals and ocean engineering research and development. This booklet describes some of the interesting features of the principal tasks and projects we have currently undertaken. - J. S. Johnson, President
