PERCEPTIONS OF FLORIDA ADMINISTRATORS IN HIGHER EDUCATION TOWARD THEIR PERSONAL APPRAISALS
- Date Issued:
- 1982
- Summary:
- Problem. The purpose of this research was to investigate perceptions of Florida Administrators in higher education toward their personal appraisal. The study examined the perceptions of a selected group of administrators in higher education of the State of Florida regarding their personal administrator appraisal, with special attention given to perceptions relating to purpose and methods of appraisal. Procedure. The procedures used in the study included a review of literature. Data were obtained from a questionnaire mailed to a selected group of administrators in higher education of the State of Florida. Two hundred and thirty-five out of three hundred and seventy-three responded. The collected data from 8,815 possible responses were statistically viewed. The chi-square level of significance and the Kendall rank correlation co-efficient (Tau c) were used. Conclusions. The data led to the following conclusions: (1) A clear majority of the administrators felt that formal system of appraisal is better than an informal system of appraisal of administrators. (2) The longer administrators were subject to formal appraisal, the stronger they felt that (a) an appraisal system gives supervisors a better idea of how well they do their work; (b) an appraisal system is effective in measuring how well they do their jobs; (c) formal appraisal is better than informal. (3) It was clear that those who were subject to a particular method of appraisal felt that the system which included that method gave them a better idea of how others viewed their work, and gave supervisors a better idea of how they did their job.
