Note(s): Significant amounts of water (≈10% of dry wt) remain in medusae after drying (i.e., freeze-drying or drying at 50°C). For hydromedusae, dry weights (DW) equaled 3.5–4.7% of wet weight (WW); for scyphomedusae, they were 4–9% of WW. Ash-free dry weight (= organic weight + bound water) ranged from 20 to 40% of DW in both groups of medusae.
