Note(s): The uptake of hexavalent chromium and the effect of hexavalent chromium on sulfate uptake by the diatom Thalassiosira pseudonana were examined at varying salinities and sulfate ion concentrations. The uptake of Cr(VI) was approximately linear with time, proportional to external Cr(VI) concentration, and inversely proportional to external sulfate ion concentration. Concentrations of Cr(VI) that inhibited growth also inhibited sulfate uptake.
