Note(s): Acteocina recta (Orbigny, 1841) and A. lepta Woodring, 1928, both from the Western Atlantic, are redescribed on the basis of type material and other specimens from museums and private collections. Acteocina recta, for which a lectotype is designated, is characterized by its generally small (1-2 mm), thin shell, spiral striae, low spire, double-keeled shoulder, and tapered protoconch, indicative of planktotrophic larval development. It ranges from eastern Florida to Texas, and throughout the Caribbean to Brazil. Acteocina lepta was originally described as a Plio-Pleistocene fossil from Jamaica. It is thickshelled and spirally striate, with a low spire, double-keeled shoulder, and bulbous protoconch, indicative of non-planktotrophic larval development; adults are 2-5 mm in length. In the Recent fauna, it ranges from Bermuda and North Carolina to Louisiana, and throughout the Caribbean to Brazil.
