Note(s): In the course of screening for novel bioactive agents from marine sponges, we have isolated from the Caribbean sponge Ptilocaulis spiculifer and from a red Hemimycale sp. of the Red Sea the same antitumor, antiviral, and antifungal compound designated ptilomycalin A, (1), 2 which possesses a unique polycyclic guanidine structure.
