Note(s): The Monitor wreck presents an exciting challenge to the archaeological community. Photographic and video coverage of the wreck, as well as artifacts already recovered, only serve to stimulate further search for data that could be obtained by continued exploration of this unique piece of United States history. Perhaps one day in the near future, through the use of the vast resources of diving systems and the engineering technology available, the American public will be able to view major portions of the U.S.S. Monitor.
