Note(s): Changes occurring in the ovary during resorption of oocytes in the middle to advanced stages of vitellogenesis are described. Oogonia and previtellogenic oocytes are not resorbed and perhaps subsequently undergo vitellogenesis. The ovary in this highly opportunistic polychaete species may play a significant regulatory role in the control of reproduction by producing yolk precursors, regulating their uptake from the coelomic fluid via the activity of the follicle cells and by resorbing mature oocytes in response to stress.
