Note(s): A light and electron microscope study was conducted on Nicolea zostericola (Oersted: Grube, 1860) to describe the processes of gametogenesis. N. zostericola is a monotelic species which spawns from 2 to 5 times over a period of 2 weeks at the end of its 1-year life span. The gonads consist of plates of cells bulging from beneath the peritoneum in the thoracic region of the body.
