Note(s): This study describes the ultrastructure of the ovary and oogenesis of Ophiolepis paucispina (Say), a small hermaphroditic ophiuroid (5-7 mm disc diameter) that broods its young in the genital bursae (Hendler, 1979). Like most brooding ophiuroids (Hendler, 1975, 1979; Strathmann and Strathmann, 1982), 0. paucispina is ovoviviparous and produces a small number (2-20) of large oocytes (400 µm diameter). Embryonic development appears to be completely supported by the nutrient reserves present in the oocyte.
