Note(s): An increase in fungal infections has occurred due to the growing numbers of immunocompromizedpatients. Currently, the principal factor involved in this increase has been the worldwideepidemic of AIDS. Certain fungal infections have become far more common than theyonce were; these are candidiasis, cryptococcosis, histoplasmosis and coccidioidomycosis. Thelimited number of antifungal agents available have the associated problems of toxicity, poorbioavailability and the development of resistance by the pathogen. There is considerable interestin the discovery and development of new agents; this review will cover the patent activityfor new antifungal entities during the second half of 1992.
