Note(s): The studies in this thesis were conducted in order to evaluate an automated turbidimetric method for the determination of sulfate when used in saline waters. Small sample size was a major requirement for applying this method to the analysis of porewater samples, where total sample volumes may be less than ten milliliters, and when numerous other tests needed to be run on the same sample. This method had not been previously tested in saline environments. The speed of this method, and freedom from tedious work made it desirable for the analysis of large numbers of samples, as may be generated by24-48 hour studies.
