Summary:
Mr. George Brewer was born in 1931 and spent most of his life in Beverly, Massachusetts. Having passed through Junior High and High School during the height of WWII, Mr. Brewer was inspired to enter the service as many of his friends had done earlier. He entered the Navy in July of 1949 immediately after completing High School. He was stationed on the U.S.S. Bayfield and destined for the Mediterranean. The outbreak of the Korean War in 1950 dramatically changed that plan. During the almost three years that Mr. Brewer was on board the U.S.S. Bayfield, he participated in virtually every function of the ship. His experiences on board spanned from working in the scullery to actually transporting men into and out of battle on smaller crafts called LCDP’s. In March of 1953, Mr. Brewer left the Navy and began the process of adjusting to civilian life. He married his wife in 1956, landing a job with the telephone company in Beverly where he would eventually become an outside plant engineer. After Mr. Brewer’s retirement in 1988, he and his wife moved to Palm City, Florida where they currently reside.
