Note(s): CORD II (Cabled Observation and Rescue Device) is designed to operate in the strong currents of the Gulf Stream. It was desired that a cable with a smaller diameter than the conventional multi-conducter be used to reduce cable drag. To accomplish this, a system incorporated multiplex and frequency modulation methods is used to send all commands and information through an armored coax cable. This paper summarizes the CORD II system with emphasis on the electronics package.
