Note(s): The JOHNSON-SEA-LINK submersibles are presently capable of speeds up to 1.5 knots. This paper describes the criterion and procedures used for increasing the speed by 25%. A tow test of the actual submersible was done to determine its drag. Theoretical calculations were done to determine the maximum amount of thrust obtainable from the present motors. Static thrust tests confirmed theoretical calculations. Speed improvement recommendetions were based on the results of these tests.
