Lookback options are path dependent contingent claims whose payoff depend on the extrema of a given security's price over a given period. Some of these options are already traded on specialized markets (such as foreign exchange) and mostly in over-the-counter market alongside with other path dependent options (knock-ins, knock-outs, etc.). Show moreI show that auditors experience cognitive dissonance when they fail to take appropriate professionally skeptical (hereafter PS) action in line with high PS judgment I specifically show that cognitive dissonance leads auditors to revise their attitudes on low ranking audit actions upward and lower their risk assessments, consequently, lower overall professional skepticism I also find that auditor cognitive dissonance leads to exaggerated ex-post auditor self-assessments professional skepticism Professional skepticism is fundamental to performing an audit according to auditing standards and critical to audit quality Extant research that investigates treatments to enhance professional skepticism predominantly treats both skeptical judgment and skeptical action as analogous outcomes of professional skepticism If, however, there is a breakdown between PS judgment and PS action, the overall benefits of these treatments will be trivial I show that cognitive dissonance due to the incongruence between PS judgments and PS actions leads to an unforeseeable corollary of lower overall professional skepticism I also demonstrate a specific mechanism of how auditor incentives lead to lower professional skepticism, hence, lower audit quality Both researchers and practitioners can benefit from this study by better understating the intricacies in the critical link between PS judgment and action Additionally, I provide an empirical investigation of the components in Nelson’s (2009) model of professional skepticism and extend the model to reflect the intricacies between PS judgment and PS action I test my hypotheses via a three-group research design with attitude change as a proxy measure of cognitive dissonance

Show moreThe world is ever-changing with technological advancement. National economies and private organizations are shifting their infrastructure to adapt to innovation and technology. We are seeing a major shift in our transportation ecosystem as well. Automotive manufacturers are launching fully electric semi-truck (EST) on the road for freight transportation. Electric trucks will have a long-term effect on many industries and the national economy in the United States. Compared to conventional automobiles, the limited range of electric vehicles is a major obstacle. To adapt electric vehicles (EVs) to our transportation system, the U.S. needs a proper charging infrastructure in our grid. Though we have been adapting the passenger EVs, the EST needs larger charging infrastructure capabilities to charge the large batteries of these trucks to complete the journey. The most important aspect is the geographical locations of these mega charging stations along U.S. highways. To analyze the optimal locations of these charging infrastructures, we use the framework from Csiszár et al. (2020), an origin-destination (O-D) data model. OD is classified as the original location of the freight to the end destination. We also use the flow-refueling location model (FRLM) from He et al. (2019). This framework showcases the optimal locations in each route in order to complete the OD pairs. We use data from the U.S. department of energy for the locations of charging stations. Furthermore, we use U.S. department of transportation highway & transportation data to procure the major O-Ds of freight transportation.

In this two-essay study, I examine how common owners interact with firms to make decisions and how they moderate the impact of market manipulation on corporate culture. In the first essay, I examine whether firms in the same industry make similar investment and financial policies when their large institutional owners overlap. This relationship is important given the tremendous rise of common institutional owners and their significance on their portfolio firms’ policies. I hypothesize that common institutional owners cause their portfolio firms in the same industry to make similar policies by creating anti-competitive incentives, reducing information asymmetry, and influencing governance.

Show moreThis study provides empirical evidence on the impact of high-tech firms' unrecognized intangible investments on the market valuation of cash flow and accrual amounts. In particular, this study empirically examines the different valuation weights that capital market participants attach to accrual-based versus cash flow-based measures when valuing intangible-intensive, high-technology stocks, and finds that investors appear to value, on average, a dollar of cash flows higher than a dollar of accruals for intangible-intensive high-technology firms. Based on samples of Compustat high- and low-technology firms between 1992--2001, the empirical results suggest that cash flows have larger multiplier than aggregate accruals, and have incremental value-relevant information beyond that contained in the individual components of accruals for valuing high-technology stocks. This study further provides evidence that suggests that cash earnings measures of low-technology firms are dominated by those of high-technology firms as a summary indicator of share values. This study contributes to existing literature that reports no substantial difference in the value relevance of cash flow and accrual amounts in high and low tech industries. It provides evidence that suggests that capital market investors do not hold high-tech stocks to the same standards of valuation that they use for low-tech traditional stocks.

Further, workplace stressors are tested as moderators for personality and CWB dimensions. Useful data were provided by 542 working participants. The study affirms a personality-behavior connection between subscales of Neurotic personality, volatility, and withdrawal, with the two behavioral manifestations of counterproductive work behavior, deviance, and withdrawal. Moderating results are modest, with results indicating a moderating effect limited to only organizational constraints on the volatility-deviance relationship.

The pure theory of information is then developed, and the "polar cases" of full information and complete information deprivation are examined. Finally, a generalized model of information acquisition and "transmission noise" are developed within the rational expectations framework.

The model's underlying theories, developed by Harry Markowitz and James Tobin, are presented first. This is followed by themathematicalderivation, developed by William Sharpe. Special attention is given to the controversial assumptions imposea by Markowitz and Tobin, which emerge in the CAPM. Major tests of the CAPM are reviewed next: and the empirical problems associated with test design are highlighted. It is shown that variations in test design produce controversial test results. The specific tests reviewed here fail to provide strong support for the nodel; nevertheless it becomes evident that such tests fostered a vast outpouring of new and extended models. The CAPM remains a breakthrough in financial and economic literature which deserves to be explored even more intensely in the future.

In medicine, AI holds the promise of providing complete panoramic views of a patient’s medical history, improving medical decision making, avoiding errors such as misdiagnosis and unnecessary procedures, interpretating tests and making treatment recommendations. In this study, I examine the influence of AI on decision-making behaviors and the changes to the professional institution of medicine. This paper links theories of institutional change and professions to further our understanding of the processes of change in response to emergent technology. Recognizing that the autonomy of decision making is central to the model of professional work, this study (1) shows how changes in decision-making processes are a driver of change in the institution of professions and (2) highlights how this impacts the professional role identity of health care providers which has implications for how medicine is taught and how diagnoses are made.

These drastic changes have occurred under an outdated legal framework. This paper will recommend a comprehensive reform to our copyright law to uphold the intentions of copyright in the modern, digital age of today. By looking at the history of copyright and its evolution, one can assess how Congress has been tasked with establishing a fair market value for music by promoting the public interest and fairly compensating copyright owners. This will lead to an evaluation and comparison of those methods used to determine fair market value for creative works that will be the basis of the recommendation used to modernize copyright law. This recommendation will comprehensively provide for equitable treatment for all parties in the streaming age through its totality, additional reforms, and alternative ideas.

The model is a 'preferred portfolio pattern' model, which was suggested by Richard Stone, and is based on the Flow-of-Funds Accounts. A background of the Flow of Funds framework and financial modelling begins the study, and is followed by an overview of traditional input-output techniques, required in the derivation of the model. Matrix adjustment of input-output systems introduces Stone's 'financial input-output models', where his structure of sectoral balance sheets, input-output type financial models and preferred portfolio pattern models are discussed. Estimation of the model involves aggregation of FOP data and its categorisation by sectors and types of financial instruments. Empirical applications presented include short-term forecasting and an analysis of the model's dynamic time path.

The purpose of this thesis is to examine the behavioral approach to the subject matter of a one quarter macro-principles course. In addition to the question of method the problematical aspects of content and purpose are also examined. The question of what to teach and to whom to teach it has not been resolved and an attempt is made in this thesis to provide a rationale for the development of a substantive content which would provide the student with means to make relatable interpretive use of the knowledge gained.

This thesis tests whether a simple income-expenditure model is a better predictor of induced expenditure and thus income than a simple quantity theory model. A spectral analysis was performed using alternative definitions of money, income and expenditure. From the results of cross spectral analysis, it was concluded that the money supply is the better predictor of short run (8 months - 3 years) fluctuations in consumption and thus in income.
