This project will prove that calculus is not something that can be just learned in the classroom but can be applied to everyday life.

Show moreThe use of the telephone to speak to study participants about health-related issues is useful when logistics make it difficult for participant and researcher to meet in person. However, gaining the trust of the participant can be a challenge, partly due to fears of fraud and identity theft. A spirit of openness and caring must come across the telephone lines between interviewer and interviewee. Roach’s six C’s can be applied to convey a sense of caring, thereby relaxing the participant and increasing their sense of safety to enhance the quantity and quality of health data being collected. According to Roach, caring is manifested through six C’s – compassion, competence, confidence, conscience, commitment, and comportment. Interviewers can be trained through role playing and scripting using Roach’s caring model. Compassion is expressed by being sensitive to the anxiety and apprehension they may feel toward receiving a call from a stranger, who is asking about health-related issues. Competence is expressed by being able to give the participant the information they need to have an understanding as to what they are consenting. Confidence is achieved by ensuring the participant that the information they share will be used appropriately and for the greater-good. Conscience is expressed by following ethical research protocols, adhering to confidentiality, and respecting the relationship with the research participant. Finally, interviewers manifest caring through comportment by identifying themselves with their name, credentials, and institution; addressing the participant formally; using language the participant can understand; and projecting caring through tone of voice.

This change can create trouble for those who do not have knowledge about their credit and finances. To understand the financial education of Americans, we developed an online survey about financial literacy and collected responses from over 200 people. Our findings show that there is a statistically significant difference of financial literacy based on factors such as income level and age group.

While there is a strong growth in our country’s economy, there is no clear way to see what the future has in store. The purpose of my research is to see how people are preparing financially towards their future. My goal is to see if people started saving for retirement, and how worried they are about the future. I am interested to see how much people saved so far. What I found is that many people did start to put money away for retirement, but they are worried about the future regardless of how much they have saved so far.

Show moreAttachment strategies are patterns of attachment that develop over the lifespan, and provide a description of interpersonal behavior along with a functional system for diagnosing psychopathology. Genetic factors, in the context of development and the environment regulate the maturation process. As the brain matures, it synthesizes past memories with present experiences in order to judge the behavior of others in future relationships. This is significant because the purpose of the attachment figure is to provide protection and aid the child in “making sense” of information made available to them. Research in adult psychopathology continues to show a correlation between adult psychopathology, cortisol, and disruptions in the childhood attachment system. This study will examine how the Dynamic Maturation Model theory of attachment strategies influence care that mothers give to their infants, and if cortisol serves as a moderator. The Adult Attachment Interview and Infant Care Index will be administered to mother/infant dyads. Attachment strategies and quality of infant care indicated by both measurements will be coded , correlated, and cortisol measured. If findings indicate a correlation, treatment interventions can be designed for post- postpartum mothers to prevent long term child and adult mental health psychopathology and associated social problems that may have their etiology in childhood.

The purpose of this study is determine if a stripped down concept formulation generated different reactions from respondents that did a lifestyle embellished visual concept formulation in a concept test for an innovative lifestyle brand. Fifty participants answered questions regarding a set of t-shirts with catchy sayings, designed specifically to fit college lifestyles. The embellished version produced higher scores in how participants thought the new t-shirts reflected who they are and how the t-shirts can fit in situations similar to respondents. Our recommendation to companies is to use an embellished concept test when marketing lifestyle products. Adding more detail to the concept test can help consumers visualize how the new product will fit with their lifestyles.

This was then plotted against the corresponding concrete compressive strength to create a relationship that can be exploited to project the later age strength of the concrete. This data is paramount in determining the viability of recycled concrete aggregate because it is a sustainable alternative to other coarse aggregate material, an essential part to making concrete, but its’ properties are largely unknown since they can be highly variable.

Thirty-seven undergraduates (6 male) completed questionnaires concerning alcohol consumption throughout the one month duration of the study. Participants performed three cognitive computer tasks at both baseline (T1) and follow-up (T2) assessment. At T2 participants also filled out a drug usage questionnaire. This study stems from a larger longitudinal pilot study. Strong correlations were found for increased cigarette use: the number of drinking days reported, r (34) = .442, p =.007, as well as non-binge drinking days and marijuana use, r (34) =.465, p =.004. Cigarette smokers were more likely than not to partake in multiple drinking behaviors. Marijuana was found to be used more on days in which binge drinking did not occur alluding to a preference to smoke rather than drink excessively while smoking marijuana.

Therefore, a global shift towards an ecologically sustainable alternative is vital, and hence exploring the scope of market for such alternatives.“ Cultured meat”, or ex vivo cultivated meat, may indeed serve as a viable alternative. However, although this method aims to lessen environmental woes, one current drawback is the ambiguity of consumer acceptance. This study addresses this concern through calculus of potential markets. Indeed, through surveying about 5,000 people worldwide, with focused populations in the United States and University undergraduates, statistically significant results of positive consumer interest in cultured meat were attained. After survey completion, over 75% of participants expressed interest in eating cultured meat (interested in “probably” or “definitely” eating cultured meat). Ultimately, this novel study ought to serve as a foundational framework for catalyzing funding towards privatized and academic research on cultured meat.

Design thinking encompasses personal design problem solving, decision making and critical thinking. Design thinking utilizes methodologies to discover and fulfill the final requirements and goals of a project; whether designing logo or a furniture program for a highly utilized space, it is necessary to start with design thinking. Design thinking permits the designer to become empathic with the audience for whom they are designing in order to pinpoint the problem; this includes observation and, most importantly, conversations in order to evaluate and understand the design needs. Further methodology includes researching the possible solutions to the problem as well as testing solutions with the audience in order to make successful decisions. In addition to the pragmatic results of design thinking, the continuous use of its research methodology improves important critical thinking skills central to the individual designer and the collaborations in which he or she participates.
We are aware that designers can come up with good, even great solutions without the audience; however, the inclusion of the audience as a stakeholder in the outcome is a key component of design thinking. Design thinking assists the designer in creating solutions that strongly connect with the audience because they are made an integral part of the process. This poster presentation will discuss design thinking methodologies that include the audience as stakeholders.
