Show moreThe purpose of this study was first to determine factors associated with intellectual reputation. Second, the study aimed to examine intellectual reputation in relationship to doctoral graduates’ productivity in the biomedical sciences and in relationship to organizational biomedical advancement and productivity. Third, the study aimed to visualize a spatial relationship between intellectual reputation and local organizational biomedical advancement and productivity. Finally, a simulated research-based model was proposed for understanding hospital productivity. The study used quantitative analysis and The Geographic Information System GIS. The findings from this study suggest that university’s research intensity, having a Nobel Laureate on staff, Hirsch Index of the most prominent researcher on staff, scientific patent, scientific publications, and affiliation with multiple countries are good predictors of intellectual reputation. Correlation analysis suggests that university intellectual reputation is associated with doctoral graduates’ productivity. When examining the relationship between the university and hospitals, university intellectual reputation was positively correlated with hospital biomedical advancement. Hospital productivity was significantly correlated with university intellectual reputation. University intellectual reputation was significantly correlated with hospital capacity to absorb knowledge and knowledge spillover. Regression analysis also reveals that hospital capacity to absorb knowledge and knowledge spillover are good predictors of hospital biomedical advancement, F 2, 176 62.637, p 0.001.Visual examination of the hospitals suggests that when universities publish at a large quantity, this influences hospitals within the area to publish as well. Additionally, hospitals that are more productive tend to cluster around universities with higher intellectual reputation.

Show moreThis research is an examination of the morphological and syntactical features found within verb phrases of Chaldean Neo-Aramaic, a Semitic language which originates from Mesopotamia. From this examination, a configurational model is proposed, which depicts the grammatical arrangement of these morphosyntactic features during verb phrase formation. Additionally, accompanying this description of the language's verb phrases, a dependency-based approach is taken for the analysis of the language's sentence structure. Such a method departs from traditional perspectives which posit that the concept of a sentence is the compositional result of two distinct linguistic elements: a subject and a predicate (the verb phrase). However, from the analysis of the language, an argument is presented for a reconsideration of the conceptualization of a sentence that would position the verb as the primary element, or nucleus, on which all other occurring elements are either directly or indirectly dependent.

MCD is useful when used in conjunction with a corresponding absorbance spectrum to assign spectral bands that may have been hidden by overlap in the absorbance spectrum. The experimental and theoretical results coincide with the two lowest energy transitions of isobutene being assigned as [...]. This is also consistent with what has been observed in ethylene and propylene, π→π^* is not the lowest transition in mono-olefins.

Overcrowded populations are associated with higher infectious disease transmission. Parasite roles within wild tortoise populations are largely unknown, despite growing evidence they may pose significant health risks. There is a large gopher tortoise population in the fragmented, poorly maintained Florida Atlantic University Preserve (FAUP). A separate Martin County population is at Jonathan Dickinson State Park (JDSP) in a higher quality habitat. We hypothesized there would be higher intestinal parasite loads in FAUP tortoises than JDSP tortoises, due to overcrowding. Several methods were used to determine parasite species and infection intensities. Fecal flotations revealed moderate to high Strongyle and Hookworm intensities in FAUP tortoises; in contrast, low Hookworm and moderate Strongyle intensities were seen in JDSP tortoises. Comparing infection intensities to degree of crowding is important to optimize management strategies of these threatened species.

The bay salinity depends on the amount of fresh water released from the Everglades and the magnitude of water outputted to the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean, as well as the ratio between the amount of water evaporated and the amount of precipitates left in the remaining water pool. For this research nine saltwater treatments from 0 to 40 ppt in increments of 5 ppt were constructed to examine how evaporation rates are affected by varying salinities. During this study, data were collected from each of the nine treatments before and after evaporation. The data recorded included salinity readings, pH levels and volume of water evaporated. The analyses of this data will determine the relationship between salinity levels and evaporation rates.

The cost of software, for example, tends to increase over time due to its complexity and the expense of employing humans to develop, maintain, and evolve it. To help control costs, organizations often seek to improve the process by which software systems are developed and evolved. Improvements can be realized by discovering previously unknown or hidden relationships between the artifacts generated as a result of developing a complex software system. The objective of this the work was to engineer a visualization software tool that helps managers and engineers better plan for future projects by helping them discover new knowledge gained by synthesizing and visualizing data mined from software repository records from their own previous projects.

However, the mechanisms of their formation and development are poorly understood. We used immunocytochemical, confocal imaging and computer remodeling techniques to map the angiographic changes in the photoreceptor degenerative mouse model, pde6d (rd1) mice. We found that mechanical instability and rewiring in the distal retina of rd1 mice could be mechanisms for the initiation and development of these tortuous vessels. We also found that in the late stages of retinal degeneration, severe tortuosity leads to ischemic attack in the distal retina. This study provides valuable insights into understanding the pathologic changes of retinal blood vessels in the development of diseases in humans and animals.

Zones of inhibition and number of colonies in the zone were recorded. Mean values of inhibition zones were compared to established databases to draw conclusions. Result: The zones of inhibition of Bacitracin antibiotics shows that several bacteria from one of the non smokers were resistant to Bacitracin, while the smokers showed marked susceptibility. Conclusion: The new method developed in our lab yielded consistent set of data which serve as criteria for determining resistance of the oral microbiome to antibiotics. Quite remarkably, it is known that pathogenic beta Streptococci are susceptible to Bacitracin while non-pathogens are not; confirming that healthy persons harbor the healthy strains of streptococci. However the unanswered question is …. Could these normal biota pick up genes and become resistant too? Only time and human habits will decide but we have developed a baseline and an easy method for testing.
