Show moreModel stores exist in distributive education laboratories. They are intended to be realistic simulations of a typical retail store in which all functions of marketing and distribution are practical, and in which the majority of the graduates of the program will gain employment and develop careers. The use of the model store as a training laboratory is not fulfilled because a significant element necessary for business operation has not been provided to accompany the physical equipment. A system of management for the model store laboratory is the missing element that must be provided before the model store can be a realistic approximation of that which it was intended to represent. There exists a subordinate need to provide an opportunity to develop interests for careers and provide experiences in the area of business services such as advertising, public relations and marketing research. These experiences are not now practicable within the scope of the model store. They are not generally provided for in the use the model store as learning experiences. Further, a need exists to provide a management plan for providing full-scale participation in all DECA activities. The breadth of activities and extent of competitive opportunities in DECA have become so great that a plan of involvement is necessary before the secondary school chapter can fully realize the benefits provided as learning activities. The purpose of this study is to provide a sys tem of management through which the model store in the distributive education laboratory becomes an authentic representation of a marketing business enterprise. The results of this study will take the form of a student-oriented handbook in which will be constructed and described a Marketing/ Management Model for Distributive Education. A secondary purpose of this study is to expand the learning activities of the model store in order to prepare more students for careers in the area of business services for the marketing process - -specifically: advertising, public relations and marketing research. A third purpose is to aid full - scale participation in the DECA program of youth activities by providing a "management treatment" of the chapter- of-the-year competitive effort.

Show moreThis project seeks to give Stephen King and Pet Sematary full consideration through applying a multi-faceted ecocritical approach to a novel so clearly founded on the relationship between the land and its inhabitants. Through my analysis of the environment’s role in Pet Sematary, I will engage with important questions asked by both Historical and New Materialists in order to examine as completely as possible the relationship between Indigenous peoples and colonist conceptions of property, land use, and nonhuman agency present in the pages. Study of this sort engages in a critique of settler colonial ideals through a thorough examination of one of popular culture’s most successful and apparently errant offenders of intentional appropriation of Indigenous belief. Ultimately, this project seeks to reclaim not only Pet Sematary or King’s oeuvre, but the horror genre more broadly. Given the genre’s affordances for critiquing material histories, this project asserts horror’s utility for the development of new understandings of old fears and particularly as a means of asserting nonhuman agency.

Show moreLogistics play a vital role in the prosperity of today’s cities, but current urban logistics delivery practices have proven problematic and to be causing various negative effects in cities. This study proposes an alternative method for delivering cargo with the leasing of a network of logistics hubs within urban areas for designated daily time intervals and handcart last-mile deliveries. The objective of the study is the development of a mathematical programming model for identifying the optimal number and locations of hubs for serving demand with the minimum cost, as well as the optimal times during the day for leasing the facilities, while also allocating hubs to customers. The problem is effectively solved by applying a Lagrangian relaxation and subgradient optimization approach. Numerical examples and a sensitivity analysis provide evidence of the robustness of the model and its ability to be effectively applied to address real problems.

We construct a formal model that reconciles non-formal risk-based Austrian business cycle theory with models of political business cycles. In our model, the incumbent political party induces the central bank to enact an expansionary monetary policy. This policy lowers the real interest rate, which leads to an increase in investments. Show moreWe construct a formal model that reconciles non-formal risk-based Austrian business cycle theory with models of political business cycles. In our model, the incumbent political party induces the central bank to enact an expansionary monetary policy. This policy lowers the real interest rate, which leads to an increase in investments. As more individuals invest, assets inflate, leading to a boom-bust cycle; voter utility increases because asset values are higher. An increase in voter utility leads to an increased likelihood that the incumbent political party will be reelected. In an attempt to avoid a violent bust in assets, the central bank may implement a contractionary monetary policy to raise the real interest rate in increments. If the financial system becomes illiquid before the policy is implemented, then a speculative bubble burst occurs. The cycle regenerates a year before the next election when an accommodative monetary policy is implemented once again.

This investigation presents a method to quantify the progression of different glaucomatous visual field defects detected in 4 patients with chronic open-angle glaucoma using linear algebra. The patients were followed an average of 4.03 years after developing monocular field loss. Either the left or right eye or both eyes showed progression in field changes. For instance, in patient 2, the presenting left eye had severe vision field loss with a greater progression of deterioration than the...
Show moreThis investigation presents a method to quantify the progression of different glaucomatous visual field defects detected in 4 patients with chronic open-angle glaucoma using linear algebra. The patients were followed an average of 4.03 years after developing monocular field loss. Either the left or right eye or both eyes showed progression in field changes. For instance, in patient 2, the presenting left eye had severe vision field loss with a greater progression of deterioration than the right eye. Based on standard automated perimetry using a Humphrey’s Visual Field and Frequency Doubling Technology, a dimensional matrix was created to allow physicians to predict the patient’s future visual field, making these matrices translatable to any process in medicine that can be expressed as a linear map. Future studies can answer questions, such as when the optimal time would be for a patient with glaucoma to transition from medicated eye drops to surgery.

Show moreOver the last thirty years, intermodal freight transportation has been a constantly expanding sector. The vast increase of freight volumes contributes to the increase of various issues in the freight corridors as well as the urban environment. The deterioration of congestion in the urban environment and the increase on freight movements on the highways have resulted in the increase of emissions. For this reason, new policies and regulations are put forth to address the environmental effects of freight transportation. This study deals with the intermodal freight network design problem from the shipping company's perspective, aiming to simultaneously minimize emission levels and cost of freight transportation. We propose a mathematical model for optimizing the design of an intermodal freight network and the location of intermodal hubs between the origins and the destinations, under delivery time constraints. The goal is to identify the mode choice patterns considering transport cost and emissions, and the effects of new emission regulations on network costs. We consider a network with marine terminals as the origins, inland intermodal terminals as the hubs, and fulfillment centers as the destinations. Numerical experiments highlight that the proposed model can provide useful insights to the shipper.

Show moreThe current study examined how viewing an event from different perspectives (eye-level and elevated) at both encoding and retrieval changes the recognition of that event. Specifically, participants were shown various manipulations to the scenarios that they witnessed at encoding. The primary focus of the study was the participants’ ability to identify old scenarios along with scenarios that had been manipulated through differences in character clothing, object placement, or temporal order of events, while still resembling the old scenario in every other way. No support was found to support the prediction that perspective at either encoding or retrieval had an effect on recognition of the scenario or the different manipulation types. An exploratory analysis revealed a trend towards significance for perspective at encoding. An eye-level perspective at encoding was more likely to result in a higher rejection rate for temporal manipulations.
