The Lander is an underwater research platfonn that is capable of carrying a variety of scientific instruments. The largest instrumental package that can be attached consists of a continuous wave laser transmitter, a pulse modulated laser transmitter, an Altimeter, an AC-9 optical sensor, a conductivity temperature and depth sensor, an LISST optical sensor, a GPS beacon and an acoustic modem. The largest instrumental package that can be attached consists of a continuous wave laser transmitter, a pulse modulated laser transmitter, an Altimeter, an AC-9 optical sensor, a conductivity temperature and depth sensor, an LISST optical sensor, a GPS beacon and an acoustic modem. The continuous wave laser transmitter housing consists of a variable power single mode low noise OEM laser and a galvanometer scanner and is mounted on a pan and tilt unit. The rest of the instruments are attached to the frame of the Lander using various fixtures. There is also an acoustic release attached to the back of the frame which is to be used for retrieval purposes.

They reveal much about a community, including the sharing of memories and tradition, geographical identification, and representation of socio-cultural hierarchies and habits. Show moreCommunity cookbooks operate through a rhetoric of place as ways of thinking about belonging and influencing communal identities. They reveal much about a community, including the sharing of memories and tradition, geographical identification, and representation of socio-cultural hierarchies and habits. For that reason, this paper advances the claim that the discourse and visuality in community cookbooks, specifically the cookbooks 200 Years of Charleston Cooking, Charleston Receipts, and Charleston Receipts Repeats published during the height of a renaissance in Southern literature, influenced the identity of “Southerness” which, taken in conjunction with place, space, and time has resulted in a unification of the changing American South. Using Carolyn Miller’s notions of genre criticism on the basis of genres as social movements, community cookbooks qualify for the genre label of domestic literature in terms of content and rhetorical influence. To prove my claim, the use of images, recipes, and folklore within the pages are analyzed with five a posteriori themes that discuss relations between a sense of place and its foodways.

After the Progressive Era, Congress outlawed sexual acts it deemed immoral using Commerce Clause powers. Since the sexual revolution of the 1960s, legislation regulating sex devolved to the states. Currently, prostitution is banned in forty-nine states. I argue that prostitution should not be abolished because it is not inherently harmful, it is not an immoral act, and it has liberty interests found within the United States Constitution. The federal government should define prostitution as a legal activity between consenting adults, and the states should regulate the practice as it does other legitimate professions.

The poems in this collection are memory based and rely on the use of metaphor to convey emotion. These writings were compiled to demonstrate a range of poetic styles and subject matter. Most importantly, each poem in some way deals with the poet's relationship to different places and the memories (often hazy or inaccurate) associated with certain settings. Additional themes present throughout these works are the loss that comes with both death and abandonment and the relationship among visual art and images and poetry. The voice in these poems represents the poet in different stages of life. Many of the poems appear to deal with mystical or fantastical elements. These represent the poet's imagination and belief in the unexplained. Some are meant to be taken literally, while others become metaphors or evidence of the poet's desire to escape the ordinary world.

The thalamus has been traditionally viewed as a structural relay to specific cortical areas behaviorally associated with sensory or motor functions, and thalamic nuclei that function in this manner are referred to as 'relay nuclei·. Show moreThe thalamus has been traditionally viewed as a structural relay to specific cortical areas behaviorally associated with sensory or motor functions, and thalamic nuclei that function in this manner are referred to as 'relay nuclei·. However. the parts of the thalamus interconnecting limbic association cortices (functionally involved in memory. reward, emotion. and decision making) comprise the midline and intralaminar nuclei. The midline thalamus has not been examined fully at the anatomical, physiological. or behavioral level, and may serve as an important relay between cortical and subcortical structures and the limbic system. The work incorporated into this dissertation included five axonal tract tracing projects that were conducted in the rat. to explore and test the hypothesis that the midline thalamus serves as an important interface between limbic structures including the amygdala. nucleus accumbens. medial prefrontal cortex and hippocampal formation. An important finding was the demonstration of a closed anatomical loop between the hippocampal formation, the ventral medial prefrontal cortex and the ventral midline thalamus: CA 1/subiculum > PLIIL > RE > CA 1/subiculum. Another finding was that 1) the hippocampal formation innervates the entire medial prefrontal cortex; and 2) the hippocampal formation projects more heavily to ventral as compared to dorsal cortices in the mPFC. The paraventricular, parataenial, rhomboid and reuniens nuclei of the midline thalamus were shown to distribute to limbic structures important for cognitive processing: the amygdala, nucleus accumbens, hippocampal formation, parahippocampal cortex, and the prefrontal cortex. Present results demonstrate that the ventral midline nuclei (reuniens and rhomboid) extensively innervate limbic cortical structures (the medial prefrontal cortex and hippocampal formation) whereas dorsal midline nuclei (paraventricular and parataenial) distribute more heavily to subcortical limbic structures (the amygdala and the nucleus accumbens). These midline nuclei may, therefore, relay information between these limbic areas. This connectivity suggests that the midline nuclei could further be subdivided from the intralaminar and relay groups. The midline thalamic nuclei would, therefore, comprise the limbic thalamus.
