Accompanied by a typed copy of the letter possibly made by the rare book dealer...

Accompanied by a typed copy of the letter possibly made by the rare book dealer Robert K. Black. William Henry Drayton (1742-1779), a Loyalist-turned-Patriot, served as president of the Council of Safety in 1775, and in 1776 was Chief Justice of South Carolina; member of the Continental Congress in 1778, and signer of the Articles of Confederation.

In 1767 he was appointed judge of vice-admiralty for Massachusetts and New Hampshire. With Adams he was counsel for Capt. Preston in the case of the so-called "Boston Massacre" in 1770.
