Recent work on fluorescent α-amino acids (FlAAs) proved extremely useful in studying protein folding, conformational changes and reactivity. When fluorescent tags are appropriately attached to proteins they allow for the detection of their environment and changes therein. Research on the topic of site-specific fluorescent molecules is in its early stages. Several challenges face the topic of selectively excitable fluorescent probes. These include limits on the size and lifetime of synthesized proteins and enzymes, attaching the tag at the target location on a peptide chain which will take advantage of the photochemical properties of the tag, and developing molecules that will readily exhibit environment-sensitive fluorescence.

- Detection in dispositional change in romantic relationships: A dynamic explanation.

A surprisingly small number of studies have been directed at examining the process by which individuals may detect change in their impressions of people once they have been formed. In fact, traditional social psychology literature suggests that individuals will engage in a number of processes to maintain or improve, rather than change, their initial attributions. With such alarming divorce rates, it is quite obvious that romantic couples are detecting change in their perceptions of one another. However, romance and attribution research has not been able to fully explain how detection of perception change occurs in romantic relationships. More specifically, traditional linear theories of attribution are not able to clarify how dramatic dispositional change can occur in romantic relationships. Results from an experiment lead us to believe that the detection of dispositional change in romantic relationships is actually quite dynamic, counter to current beliefs in the field. In addition, the Discounting Principle may be used in non-traditional ways.

Show moreThis study described the present condition of absence control programs within the sixty-seven school districts of the State of Florida. It was initiated when it became evident that the literature of educational administration was sparse in reference to current studies involving the effects of absence control strategies on school board personnel. This lack of reference in the literature of educational administration was contrasted with the wealth of information within the field of business administration. The question arose as to the actual state of existing absence control programs within the educational domain. This study found that few absence control programs existed within the Florida school districts. Little program innovation was evident, and even the most basic components of an effective absence control program were lacking. The Florida school districts were not consistent in their tendencies to maintain written attendance policies or standard procedures for reviewing absences. They did not conduct annual absentee studies nor create a list of chronically absent employees. Employee assistance programs like absentee counseling and alcoholic rehabilitation were virtually non-existent. The sparcity of educational research in the review of the literature was consistent with the scarcity of absence control programs within the Florida educational system.
