Brachyuran crabs are excellent subjects for comparative ethological studies. Many species exhibit complex behavioral repertoires (Stevcic, 1971) which illustrate adaptive changes associated with the evolution of intertidal and semiterrestrial species from aquatic species and provide information concerning the organization of behavior in an important group of invertebrates. This manuscript is a preprint version with the final publication available at http://www.brill.nl/publications/journals/journal-crustacean-biology and may be cited as: Jacoby, C. A. (1981).
