Translated from English (London) by Thomas Tilliar; printed 1689.] Reprint of excerpts from De Republica Anglorum by Thomas Smith (1589). "Doctor of both laws" refers to those who have studied both Canon Law and Civil (Common) Law. Sir Thomas Smith (1556-1609) was the principal Secretary of State under King Edward VI and Queen Elizabeth I." This work was reprinted often and was reprinted on the 100th anniversary of its first appearance.
