Note(s): The development of techniques for the cultivation of queen conch, Strombus gigas, has been due to the dedicated efforts of scientists from the Caribbean over the past two decades. Researchers from government agencies, universities, and private enterprises have made significant contributions toward the husbandry of queen conch in an effort to replenish depleted wild populations and give birth to an aquaculture industry for nations in the Caribbean and Latin America. In many ways, each project has made its contribution to the body of scientific knowledge regarding conch mariculture that has brought the concept of cultivation of conch closer to realistic application. The cooperative exchange of information and ideas has facilitated development of conch mariculture in the region.
