Note(s): Throughout the development of remotely operated vehicles, little emphasis has been placed on the building of a system capable of operating in areas of high surface currents. To successfully operate a vehicle in conditions found in areas such as the Florida Current (2500 feet water depth and three to four knots of surface current), an ROV system must be designed to minimize vehicle and cable drag and yet maximize the downward force applied to the lower termination of the umbilical.
