Note(s): A working model was devised and constructed which automates the operation of the total carbon system (TCS) manufactured by Oceanography International. The TCS is a system which measured the total carbon content of sealed seawater samples. Manual operation of the TCS required a technician be at the machine for up to five hours. The automation system frees the technician from this requirement.
