Note(s): | Dr. Jack Seitlin’s father arrived in Miami in 1909 from Gomel, Russia and in 1913 Dr. Seitlin’s mother joined her husband. The Seitlins originally wanted to settle in Palestine, but a family emergency brought them to the United States. In 1921, Dr. Seitlin was born in Miami. The Seitlin family was very active in the local Jewish community. Dr. Seitlin attended Miami High School and the University of Florida before entering into dental school at Loyola in New Orleans, Louisiana. Following his completion of dental school, Dr. Seitlin served in the Pacific Theater of War during World War II with the First Marine Air Wing. He witnessed firsthand the surrender proceedings at Tientsin. Upon returning to Miami, Dr. Seitlin and his wife settled and began their family and dental proactive. At the age of 84, Dr. Seitlin continues to work at his dental practice. He enjoys afternoon movies with his wife and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandson. He also sings some of the Hebrew and Yiddish songs he remembers being taught as a child. Also Dr. Seitlin discussed the following topics: Great Depression, Miami Hurricane of 1926, racism, and anti-Semitism. | |
